US Navy Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program
Mission: To develop physical therapy professionals with advanced clinical training in sports physical therapy; with preparation to exemplify the core values of physical therapy, to be leaders, clinical scholars, and skilled practitioners in the provision of patient centered healthcare.
U.S. Navy Medicine’s Mission: We enable readiness, wellness, and healthcare to Sailors, Marines, their families, and all others entrusted to us worldwide be it on land or at sea.
Program Goals
Support the mission and vision of Navy Medicine by providing a credentialed program to develop physical therapy clinicians with advanced competencies and clinical expertise in Sports Physical Therapy.
- The program will prepare residents to be autonomous providers of sports physical therapy services through leadership, teaching, mentorship, and consultative activities.
- Deliver a curriculum for post-professional experiential learning that prepares residents to pursue the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification as a sport’s clinical specialist, upon completion of the program. Our candidates for the residency do not submit an application. Our residents are chosen by the Navy Physical Therapy specialty leader.
- The program will remain sustainable.
